On 19 December 2013 the Visa-Free Europe Coalition, of which the Hungarian Europe Society is a member, issued a statement calling for a temporary suspension of the visa regime for the Ukrainian citizens with regards to short-term travel to the European Union in 2014. The declaration is a gesture to the Ukrainian people, who have peacefully demonstrated their European orientation.

Orbán Viktor és kormánya kétharmados parlamenti többségével visszaélve, a puccsszerű alkotmányozás újabb hullámával a magyar alkotmánybíróság által megsemmisített számos törvényt akar alkotmányos szintre emelni. A Fidesz-KDNP olyan antidemokratikus, az európai, sőt, univerzális értékeket sértő törekvéseket kíván örökre bebetonozni, amelyeket éppen az európai intézmények nyomására vont nemrég kényszerűen vissza. Ezzel szabadságjogaiktól fosztja meg a magyar polgárokat, egyszersmind újból szembemegy a nemzetközi közélet jogainkat védő demokratikus szereplőivel.
Abusing their two-third parliamentary majority, Viktor Orbán and his government in a new wave of “coup-like” amendments to the constitution wants to elevate to constitutional status a number of laws that were previously struck down by the Constitutional Court. Fidesz-KDNP wishes to cement for ever such anti-democratic ideas contradictory to European, even, universal values, which not so long ago it was forced to revoke under the pressure of the European institutions.
The Hungarian government has caused an international scandal by sending home a nationalist Azerbaijani soldier who had been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for brutally murdering an Armenian soldier in Budapest in 2004. This unscrupulous decision done in the hope of securing financial support might not only destroy friendship with Armenia, but might even rekindle the frozen conflict in the Caucasus. The Hungarian government apparently does not care about these consequences.
