Corruption and Illiberalism: Hand in Hand

Openly questioning liberal democracy and openly abusing political power for serving corruption are equally dangerous for democracy, stability and Europe’s future. This was the conclusion of the discussion entitled "The future of the EU: Central and Eastern European Perspectives" between Zsuzsanna Szelényi, member of the Hungarian Europe Society, visitor fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, Alina Inayeh, Director of the Bucharest Office of the German Marshall Fund of the US, and Olivia Toderean, Director, Analysis and Policy Planning Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Romania held on 16 November 2018. The event was part of the V4Europe program of HES. The speakers agreed that Europe is facing several transnational challenges that can only be faced and solved in a unity among democratic European countries.
