On 29 June 2012, László Andor, Member of the European Commission for Employment, Social affairs and Inclusion was the invited guest of the Hungarian Europe Society.
First, the Commissioner described how and according to what considerations the Heads of State and Government of the European Union agreed upon the creation of the new banking supervision system at their summit. According to Andor, the establishment of the banking union is a significant step forward and a breakthrough in the process of the European crisis management.

The Open Question of the Former Secret Police Informers

The Hungarian Europe Society held а discussion evening entitled "The secret police past and the openness of files" on 23 May 2012. Its focus was on the historical and political aspects of the still open question of the communist secret police informers. The invited presenters were the historian László Varga and HES member József Gulyás, who was a member of the National Security Committee of the Hungarian Parliament until 2010.

Recent behaviour of the Hungarian government led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has raised questions whether the country is steering outside the European Union either by leaving the political and economic integration on its own decision or by provoking its expulsion by the European institutions and the other member states. There exist also mid-way potential scenarios.
